The will of William Comely (1763-1818). The Comelys were a prolific family in the region. Our ancestor Aldom Comely, mentioned in the will, lived at Acton Turville. Prior to that he was at Sopworth.

Parents: John COMELY 1739-1806 & Mary BALDWIN William Comely Esq of Bathwick in the County of Somerset.
"-to my brother, Joseph Comely all my rights and interest in the freehold estate at Nettleton in the County of Wiltshire now in occupation of Clark....if he dies, has no children etc. ...the said estate goes to Richard Carter Esq of Hoxley, Wilts. and Richard ----?---- of the same place in trust to sell and dispose of the same at the most advantageous terms, and to divide the ---?--- after payment of the ---?--expenses in amongst my nephews and heirs or the representation of such as may leave lawful --?-- in equal shares. I likewise bequeath to my said brother Joseph Comely, one thousand pounds."
"To by brother Aldom, all my freehold estate at Acton Turville, Glos. and my freehold lands at Upton in the parish of Hawkesbury, Glos. in the occupation of --?-- and the Estate called ---?---- at Luckington, Wilts. in the occupation of S. Chapman to my said brother Aldom Comely the sum of two thousand pounds."
"I bequeath to my nephews, William Comely and Robert Comely and to my nieces Jane and Mary, sons and daughters of my brother John Comely ----?--- the sum of one thousand pounds each."
"I give to my sister, Elizabeth Wickham, all my freehold estate at Burton in the parish of Nettleton, Wilts. known by the name of the Plume of Feathers and the Lands? - /- herewith for her life and after her decease I give the same to my nephews, John Comely, William and Fitzwilliam Witham in equal shares. If they should die without issue I give the same to my nieces Mary Wickham and Ann Wickham in equal shares. I give and bequeath to my said nieces Mary Wickham and Ann Wickham one thousand pounds each."
