The Coach & Horses in Micklegate existed from at least 1823. Various expansions of the public house buildings have occurred. The pub was later renamed as The Coach, then the Phalanx and Firkin, and in 2003 as The Priory. It was a Joshua Tetley pub in 1945. In 1998 Tetley was taken over by Carlsberg.
