Earliest mention was in 1740 when James Calton, coach master of the York to Scarborough coach became the licensee. In 1902 described as being nearly new.
It had an attic, two bedrooms used by the family and a living kitchen for food to customers. On the ground floor were a smoke room, and a bar above the cellar. In October 1958, the license was removed to new premises, the Green Tree, to be opened in Breckfield lane. At the same time, the Green Tree, Barbican license was also surrendered.
