York Pubs history

A coaching horse, previously Gibsons, Bluitts and Ribgroses. Thomas Etridge succeeded John Ringrose in 1803. The Royal could relate to a visit in 1768 by Christian IV, King of Denmark. Etridge died in 1855, aged 83. The hotel put up for sale, but closed and was demolished in 1860 as part of the improvements to the approaches to the new bridge to be built at Lendal. *HM
