The history of the Fox, 92 Goodramgate, York

Dating back to at least 1830 as "The Fox", the name was changed to "The Beech Tree" from 1848 to 1872, then back to "The Fox" by 1876. Apparently it was also known as "The Lord Byron". It closed as a pub in 1895 and was being used as a shop when this image was taken. (Information from Hugh Murray: "A Directory of York pubs 1455-2004"; Voyager, 2004)
