Previously the Granby or Granbys Punch House. The Marquis of Granby when sold in 1819 at tehe bankruptcy of John Kilby.
John Manners of the Marquis of Granby in 1770 was the commander in chief of the British Army in 1766. He set up a number of soldiers with public houses, often named after him. In 1843 it was the Granbys Punch Bowl, and in 1851 it had become the Griffin, a beerhouse. *HM
