Mr Thomas Scott, landlord of the Golden lion, St Sampsons square, Mrs Jeffreys, landlady of the Saracens Head, Stonegate, Mr Leapish, landlord of the Red Lion, Church street, Mr Wood, landlord of the Bay Horse, Petergate, and Mr H Bently, landlord of the Dukes Head, Aldwark, were charged with infringing the Beer Act, by not having their houses closed at the proper hours on Good Friday.
