James Dale, landlord of the Square and Compass, Hungate, was summoned for assaulting Emma Newland. The complainant who was leaving the defendants service, went for her box, and as she insisted upon having it he struck her. He was fines 1s and costs.

The York Compensation Authority yesterday awarded £1,450 compensation in respect of the licence of the Square and Compass, Hungate deferred to them by the Licensing Justices, and £2,250 in respect of the licence of the Sportsman, Hungate.
