Landlords, legends, census records, and lost taverns.
It was referred to in church wardens accounts of Holy Trinity Goodramgate in 1703. In 1733 it was named as a place for common carriers to be found.
In 1742 William Barwick was the licensee of the Sandhill, Colliergate, renamed to the White Swan, and he renamed it as the White Swan and Sandhill. The Sandhill was an alternative name for the White Swan, Goodramgate; as also in official records of 1822 and 1826.
At one time it had entrances in both Petergate and Goodramgate; the latter being its address after 1795. - *HM
