Selby Times. 19 November 1915
Death of Mr George E Wood - After a lingering illness extending over a few months, the death took place at Wistow on Saturday morning of Mr George Ed Wood, who for 14 years was the license holder of the Junction Tavern, at Selby.
The deceased, who was 62 years of age, was for many years in the employ of the N E R Co, being a signalman at Hull, and coming to Selby as a guard during the week that the present hydraulic bridge over the river Ouse at Selby was opened.
In taking up the duties as a licensed victualler in Selby his affability drew together a large number of friends, and his house became the rendezvous of a happy party, who held their host in high esteem and regard.
He retired from business a few years ago, and has lived in retirement at Wistow.
There were several floral tokens sent, one being from the Selby and District Licensed Victuallers' Association, of which he had occupied the position of President.
