Sheffield pub history index
Note that there was another Barrel Inn nearby (just to the North), in Little Pond Street. I’ve not investigated this inn, but it was gone by 1890, subsumed by expansion of Soho Rolling Mill.
Pond Street was renumbered twice. Before 1841 The Barrel was number 14, subsequently number 118 and, after the street was renumbered again in the 1870s, it became no 105. It was sometimes spelt Barrell, and sometimes referred to as the Old Barrel Inn. The Old Barrel in the 1881 census. *

Pond Street was renumbered in the 1840s. The Barrel was no 14 and became no 118. Nearby the Royal Oak was no 8 and became no 138, and the Ball was 56 and became 16, so this was not entirely logical. *
