In 1861 and 1862 the landlady was Mrs Harriet Parker, and the establishment was called the Feathers. (census and White's directory respectively).

The landlord of the Clarence in the 1871 census was Joseph Henry Young (eldest son of John Young of the Royal Oak in Pond Street).
The baptism of one of his children tells us that this was also the case in Jan 1870.
The census indicates that at the time the pub only occupied number 48 High Street (number 50 being a shop). *

In 17 Jun 1875 James Wescoe, proprietor of the Clarence Hotel, High Street, died (Sheffield Independent). *

I can confirm that G A Chapman was landlord in Jan 1877 from local newspapers; and in 1879 it occupied both 48 and 50 High Street (White's Directory). *
Immediately previous to this I believe the landlady was Mrs Linley.
