This Hotel was located on the corner of Pond Street and Sheaf Street (more often called Station Road), as shown on the maps in the folder. As far as can be established, it was never given a Pond Street number, but the next door property to the south was number 187. *
This Hotel is often confused with the similarly named (and much older) beerhouse at number 133 Pond Street, called the Midland Railway Hotel, or just the Midland Hotel. *

28 Sep 1877 – Application made for a provisional license for premises about to be erected on the corner of Pond Street and Station Road, on behalf of the intended tenant Henry Thomas Edward Holmes. (Sheffield Daily Telegraph - 29 September 1877) Mr Holmes was actually the Company Secretary of Truswell's Brewery Co. Ltd. so we can conclude that this was an application on behalf of the company to be sure that they could get a license before committing to the building project. *
