My interest is in the Greyhound Hotel, Salisbury Street, Fordingbridge. My great aunt (x2) Emily Chilcott (nee: Stroud, in Ringwood) was the wife of Robert Chilcott (born in Dorset) Innkeeper of the Greyhound Hotel, Fordingbridge, between 1861 & 1871. **
Robert was listed as the Head of the family, and was also recorded in the 1871 Census as a farmer, as well as the Innkeeper of the Greyhound.
Robert and Emily married in 1849 in Ringwood. In 1851 he was recorded as landlord of the Red Lion, Market Place Ringwood with Emily his wife.
Emily, Robert's wife, was one of three daughters (there were six sons) of Joseph Brown (1760-1827) Parish Clerk of Ringwood. . Robert and Emily had one son and one daughter. The daughter’s name was Emily Jane Chilcott, who married George Pritchard Brown, Clerk to the RDC Council of Ringwood. Emily Jane Brown died on May 1883 and is buried in the Cemetery in Ringwood.
