CHEVENING is a village and parish, four miles N.W. from Sevenoaks, The population in 1851 was 983. The church is an old building, with a square tower and turret at the west end. The living is a rectory, in the gift of the Archbishop of Canterbury; the Rev. Thomas Bartlett, M.A., is the incumbent.

CHIPSTEAD is also a hamlet of this parish, one mile and a quarter south-by-east from the village. Froghall is one mile S.E.; Morant's Court, half a mile east; Montreal, two miles S.E. Whitley Row and Spring Hill are places in the parish.

BESSELL'S GREEN is a hamlet of this parish, adjoining Chipstead, about one mile and three-quarters S.E. from the village, and two miles N.E. from Sevenoaks. There are chapels for Unitarians and Baptists.
