1847, Noahs Ark, Peter street, Thomas Wilson .. Bagshaw’s Directory

Jane Robinson of The Fox 182 Beach Street, Deal is my 3rd great grandmother on my paternal side. One of her daughters, Susannah Robinson (1823-1884), married Stephen Henry Atkins (1826-1868), they ran the Noah's Ark in Deal mentionedin a 1855 directory and two earlier copies. The 1851 census has them at Number 1 Ark Lane, with lodgers, travellers. I assume this is the Noah's Ark. He is listed as Victualler *

In 1851 at 1 Ark Lane, Deal, Eastry
Stephen H Atkins, Victualler aged 24 and born in Deal, Kent
Susannah Atkins Wife aged 26 and born in Deal, Kent

1855, Noah's Ark, Stephen Henry Atkins, Peter Street, Deal

Sometime after 1859 they seemed to up sticks and move to London. He was still in Deal in 1859 mentioned in polls book. In 1865 he is mentioned in a London directory. They run The Brewers Hall, Commercial Road at the corner of Devonport Road in Mile End in London. He catches typhoid (I think, without getting out his death certificate. ) and dies very young. Susannah carries on running the Brewers Hall but by 1881 census she is retired licensed victualler. *
