My Grandfather William Goodliffe (known as Will, Bill or Billy) was a manager for four pubs owned by The Cornbrook Brewery.
William Goodliffe was Landlord at the Navigation, 2 Elm street, Water Street, Manchester from 1930 to 1936;
the landlord at the Neptune, 3 Masonic Street, Murray Street, Manchester from 1935 to 1936 ;
and the landlord at the Pork Butchers Arms, 7 Chapman St, Oldham Road Manchester from 1936 to 1942.
He was the landlord at the Golden lion from 1942 to September 1953 when he died at the age of 69. The picture is of him outside the pub in 1953 when it was decorated for the Coronation.
