The 1841, 1851 and 1861 census show that Charles Hayward (born about 1790) was the Publican/ Victualler/ Licensed Victualler respectively at the King's Arms on Saint George's Street, Camberwell. The King's Arms is shown in the 1841 census as being next door to the Saint George's Hotel. Charles moved here just before 1841 from central London and he died at the Kings Arms in 1862. Edwin Hayward born about 1830 and in 1861 he is the victualler at the Duke of Kent pub which was at 11 Hanover Place, Camberwell. In the 1871 census Edwin is shown as the licensed victualler at 148 St George's Road, Camberwell (sorry no pub name given but not the Kings Arm where his elder brother Arthur Thomas lives).

Arthur Thomas Hayward born about 1828 and by 1856 he was the licensed victualler at 106 Bishopsgate, London (Kings Arms), until about 1869.
In 1871 he is licensed victualler at the Kings Arms, 48 Wells Street, Camberwell (Wells Way on the current A to Z). Despite the change of street name this is the same Kings Arms that his father was running in the previous census. The 1843 street map of London shows that south of the bridge over the Grand Surrey Canal, Wells Way is called Wells Street whilst north of the bridge it is George Street. The Kings Arms was right next to the bridge. *
