The church of All Saints is a fine handsome building, with large square tower, surmounted by pinnacles, with a clock, and 6 bells: the interior has lofty nave, with wide span, and the roof is finely ribbed: the windows are of stained glass, and it has also a very large antique font. There is a Baptist chapel. There are two fairs for cattle and sheep, on the 12th May and 25th October. John Crabtree, Esq., of Halesworth, is lord of the manor, and Sir E. C. Kerrison, Bart., M.P., is the principal owner of the land. The soil is a rich clay, with clayey subsoil, and very fertile. The chief crops are wheat, barley, beans, turnips, and pasture.
