Croydon Times 23 September 1922 :
Albert Tavern - Application for the provisional transfer of the licence of the Albert Tavern public house, South Norwood, from George Herbert Hope to Frederick Charles Whittle, whose address was given as The Surrey Hounds, Caterham Valley.
Police Inspector Adams said the police had no objection, but the commissioner wished to notice certain information.
Mr Whittle held the licence of the Swan public house, at London road, Mitcham, from April 1915 to January 1921, and whilst there he was summoned at the Police court in November 1916, for supplying by his servant intoxicating liquor for someone who had not ordered it. The servant in that case was Mr Whittles son.
Then on August 20th 1920, Mr Whittle was summoned on six counts for selling spirits at a price exceeding the maximum. On four of these summonses, he was fined £10 each, and £5 on the others.
Mr Whittle had held a licence in the city of London [3 Foster Lane] for 18 months without complaint, and his conduct was satisfactory.
The Bench granted the transfer to Mr Whittle.
