The Cock Inn, at Southwater in the Parish of Horsham, in the occupation of Mr Wiliam Hammond (The Halfway House between Worthing and Dorking) on the London road, with a coach house, stables for twelve horses, brewhouse and other convenient outbuildings, garden, orchard and a meadow. The Premises also comprises a Blacksmiths shop, with two Forges and a Harness makers shop.
The estate is copyhold of Inheritance of the Manor of Selah. Quit rent 8d. Fine at will.
Possession may be had on Lady Day 1827
In the 1851 census, the landlord and landlady were James and Lucy Fairs. James died in 1852 when Lucy was then granted the license. Lucy then died in 1855.

The licensee of the Cock Inn, Southwater, Mr John Brown, died suddenly at his home on Friday.
He had been in the licensed trade for about nine years and before taking over the Cock Inn, he had run the Michell Arms, in Springfield road, Horsham.
He is survived by a widow and two sons.
