In about September 1875 George Dawson and wife Sarah moved to the Lion and Lamb, from the Star Hotel, and continued to manage the Stables as the advertisements, again in the "Maryport Advertiser" stating on 24 September 1875. Referring to that address. The location of the Stables remained unchanged. ***

It was while at the Lion and Lamb that George died in November 1877 at only 40 years of age. His wife Sarah however as a very capable manager, carried on for at least a further 2 years, regularly advertising in the local newspaper but now under the heading of Mrs George Dawson. An advertisement to follow on 14 December 1877, I quote: ***
"NOTICE MRS GEORGE DAWSON
be to let Post horses, that she will continue to carry on the business at the Lion and Lamb Inn, also the POSTING Business. She thanks her numerous patrons for past favours, and has confidence."***

Her adverts continued through until 30 May 1879 when jointly a William Scott and Mrs. George Dawson posted the following, I quote: "WILLIAM SCOTT to undertake general CARTING and to let out for hire a Horse and Whitechapel Dog Cart, on most reasonable terms. MRS GEORGE DAWSON begs to announce that she intends keeping on the Yard and Stables in John-street and will carry on the Posting Business."***

It was while searching through your most extensive list of public houses, that I found that there isnt any record of my g.grandfather, George Dawson or his wife Mrs Sarah Dawson, as publican and/or Inn-keepers, so thought that the above information may be of use to you in the event of a future amendment.***
