Percy must have run this pub in his mid-20s before getting married in 1909, then opening the Dolphin
pub, 9 miles away in Notting Hill. I can’t recollect ‘The Duke’ ever being mentioned by Dad, Winnie or Sylv, so this is quite a discovery. ***

My grandparents (James and Monica Courtney) bought the pub from Shepherd Neame and they were both the freehold owners and the landlord and landlady of The Duke of Sussex from 1991 to 1998. They sold it to Dave Chapman who made it The Albion. *+
