Street. In 1825, 1853 and 1856 the pub is listed as Colonel Wardle. It is named
the Britannia in the 1884, 1891, 1895
and 1899 directories. The 1884 directory places the Britannia at 139 Tooley
Street, which is at or near the College Street junction. Built [Rebuilt] in 1881
and now an office known as Britannia House. The name can still be seen in
stone mezzo-rilievo
along the Tooley Street and Shand Street façades; a horizontal line of 23
ceramic oval cabachon red white and blue Union Flags can be seen below the
Tooley Street parapet. ***
